THAILAND – A HAVEN FOR RETIREES
THAILAND – A HAVEN FOR RETIREES
International Living is a one of the leading websites on a global level, according to International Living – Thailand ranks seventh in the world as one of the best places to retire in.
In addition to this, International Living releases an annual list for the ‘Best Places to Retire’ in the Southeast Asian region as well, wherein Thailand stood at the third position and Malaysia at the fifth.
Contrary to numerous reports in the media which had acknowledged the BBC for publishing the afore mentioned rankings, the International Living Organization were the sole custodians of it with Thailand ranking highly on its annual survey.
Besides being ranked as one of the best places to retire in, Thailand is also referred to as the ‘land of smiles’ and takes the top spot in International Living’s section of ‘Entertainment and amenities’ across the globe. In addition to this Thailand secured a score of 90 out of 100 in the section of ‘buying and renting’ as well. This section was mainly concerned with the ‘bang for your buck’ in the Thailand property market whether it is related to buying or land or renting of a property. It also included the ease of finding a property for rental, and affordability to buy in case one wants to settle down in Thailand.
The top ranking country for this category was Ecuador from South America. It is a known fact that if you look around you can find cheaper rentals but the surveyed colonial city of Cuenca with a rent of 500$ (sometimes lesser) can fetch you an apartment with two bedrooms. While in the town of Cotacachi which is a very popular hill town an apartment with two bedrooms will cost you anything between 450 to 600$ per month. Then again cheaper rentals are possible to find, but will require you to invest more time to shop around.
Malaysia has also been able to secure a high score in this section of the survey, according to one report published my Keith Hockton an International Living correspondent from Malaysia who believes you can find rentals of great value in Malaysia.
Keith Hockton went on to state that he and his wife rent an apartment condominium 2,100 square feet in size, with bright marble flooring, high ceiling and enjoy polished parquet flooring in all their bedrooms. They also have access to a common gym a beautifully landscaped garden, a Garden, Golf Driving Range and a swimming pool. All this at the cost of just nine hundred and fifty dollars a month.
According to the same survey which was carried out by International Living, other countries in the SouthEast Asia, like Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia also managed to acquire positions and rankings in the top 23 spots in the survey of 2016.
